It's coastline covers 3.739 km and is delimited by the countries of Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia &amp; Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania. During the Cretaceous Period, 70 million years ago the Adriatic basin reached the Dinaric Alps forcing its creation along with a series of intricate geomorphological features. Because it is a semi-enclosed sea with a continuous change of currents it's salinity is lower than the Mediterranean's and so it collects a third of the fresh water flowing into it, acting as a dilution basin. In the period between 789-1797, the Republic of Venice established its domain and created an overseas empire which included Dalmatia &amp; Istria as well as other acquisitions. In today's world, globalized trade integrates more and more countries by abolishing traditional production and product exchange structures, redistributing new frontiers and regulations (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership -TTIP). At the same time, tourism development as the main economic pillar of the Dalmatia and Istria countries is growing rapidly, resulting in the environmental degradation of the coastline. The project explores a paradoxical condition, an ambiguous status that is situated between tourism and modern manufacture trends, past and future time. The Nuovo Stato, acts as an alliance of economic growth between the countries that is rooted in an imaginary or artificial island which hosts a speculative collection of re-imagined architectural and landscape elements. Through its allegorical storyline this new offshore non-place incorporates clashing programs by suggesting a surreal tourist experience. The origin of its name is the Greek word Kypris (gr: Κύπρις) that is the last name of the ancient goddess Aphrodite and it is found in the Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad. The history of the island starts from the prehistoric period. There is a strong succession of sovereignty for its strategic position, most notably the Frankish empire, during which important ports have been developed. As a result, Cyprus has a great cultural heritage. In 1974 Turkey invaded in the northern part of the island. Since then, geopolitically Cyprus is quadruple: the Republic of Cyprus occupies the 56% of the ground, the Turkish Republic of the Northern Cyprus occupies the 34,85%, the United Nations covers 2,67% with the buffer zone and the British sovereignty covers the 2,74%. The main economic sectors of Republic of Cyprus are trade and tourism. After the invasion, Cyprus lost the biggest trade port of Famagusta causing an economic drawdown. To stabilize the situation, there was an expansion of the rest of the coastal cities with uncontrolled artificial cover of the coastline. The phenomenon is more intense in the case of Cyprus because of the great amount of the marine mineral resources.What will happen after 300 years, when the sea level starts to destroy the coastline?Envisioned a non specific area proposal of a new amphibious rehabitation that will be suitable to respond to the upcoming sea rise. This residential model will act as an autonomous mechanism that will provide all the necessary uses in order to become a community that will release the structured surrounding environment and bring it back to an earlier non-structured condition. It's a group of several islands, among them Corfu, Paxi, Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaki, Zakynthos and Kythira, being these the main ones.The main element that stands out in this set is the sea, element that is studied with more attention throughout this project and that brings us to the focus of the same.The research begins with the study of the interaction of the islands with the sea and with the coast, thus discovering the different problems that are created in the Ionian Sea, more specifically in the circle that forms between Lefkada and Kefalonia and the coast of Greece, as the traffic and abundance of boats in this area.The project aims at an attempt to solve these problems with the creation of punctual structures, in critical areas, for the aid of sailling boats. agricultural land and is divided in three parts :EPEIROS APEIROSThe first part is about a general research of the region of Epirus as well as a specific research about the Epirus waterscapes.LAKE | RIVER | LAGOON AND THE SEAIn the second part, it is been examined the Arachthos River, in south of Epirus, as a natural mechanism that used to change and is about to change.FUTURE FLUVIAL FORMATIONSFinally the third part is a site specific architectural project that proposes water formations along the mouth of Arachthos river.Epirus is a geographical and historical region in southeastern Europe, now shared between Greece and Albania. It lies between the Pindus Mountains and the Ionian Sea, stretching from the Bay of Vlorë and the Acroceraunian mountains in the north to the Ambracian Gulf and the ruined Roman city of Nicopolis in the south.The name Epirus is derived from the Greek: Ἤπειρος, Ḗpeiros (Doric: Ἄπειρος, Ápeiros), meaning "mainland" or terra firma. It is thought to come from an Indo-European root apero- 'coast', and was originally applied to the mainland opposite Corfu and the Ionian islands.Because of its unique landscape, it is the region with the biggest drainage rate in Greece. The research is focusing on river’s mouth which has dramatically changed the last 40 years due the construction of two hydroelectric dams.The changes are obvious:A big lake has been formed in order to prevent flood damages, produce hydroelectric power and irrigate the meadow’s agricultural fields.The meadow has been transformed from endless swamps to a fertile agricultural land because of the alluvial deposits and the coastline has been allocated and partially corroded through decades due to reduced water flow.However, the big changes are about to happen. Due to climate change, annual rainfall has increased, therefore dams can’t control rivers flow. The agricultural meadow and the six villages along the river are about to face serious flood damages. Meadow’s tendency to turn into the initial swamp situation can’t be prevented.Considering the circumstances, the project’s proposal is focusing on guiding water flow and designing flood areas, in order to decompress water’s urge naturally and prevent flood damages to the settlements along the river.The six successive wetlands that are going to be formed, have been designed properly to be exploited as hydroponic lakes where floated platforms are being installed. Therefore, a new type of cultivation will be introduced to the region and broaden the variety of agricultural products. The narrow Euripus Strait separates it from Boeotia in mainland Greece. In general outline it is a long and narrow island. It is about 180 km long and varies in breadth from 50km to 6km.Its geographic orientation is from northwest to southeast. Dirfys and Ochi mountain ranges traverse its central and southern part respectively.Euboea is also known as the Triarchy of Negroponte, a crusader state established on the island after the partition of the Byzantine Empire following the Fourth Crusade. From circa 1930, it became a regular Venetian colony as the Kingdom of Negroponte. Numerous traces of Venetian towers and castles scattered in the mountainous landscape testify that the Venetians took advantage of the intense relief for communication, observation and fortification.The discovery of magnesite deposit in the northern part of Euboea in 1842 has had a great impact on its current geomorphology. The mining process which started in the 19th century and is still active, left behind remarkable ex-mining areas filled with water, industrial buildings’ remains and facilities such as rails, wagons, loading ladders, and furnaces. In ‘Mining Trail ‘ project all these contemporary traces are organized in a journey in order to initiate people to the mining process through personal experience , and how landscape changes throughout of mining process, the natural and artificial remarkable landscapes and the difficult access to these areas, this project proposes an aerial route -organized in four stations- which enables people experience mining process and its history.The aerial route, is based on the traces of the aerial transportation system of Anglogreek Magnesite Company which was active in 20th century, transporting magnesite from mining areas to ports.Now, visitors start their journey from the old factory in Katounia area at Euboean Gulf, and end up to Pili or Kymasi area at Aegean Sea. The intermediate stations are the ex-mining areas Kakavos and Paraskeuorema. In the first one the magnesite mining is still active and the second has been turned into biotope. The administrative periphery of Crete, the center of which is Heraklion, also includes the nearby islands Spinaloga, Gramvousa and Gavdos, which constitutes the southest point of Europe. It is an island with a strong morphological diversity and a long coastline that reaches almost the 100 km.Crete has a rich history, as it has passed by different dominations, each of which has left its traces. One of the most important dominations, Venice, recognizing the strategic location of the island, transformed it into a major cultural and commercial center of the time (1204-1669). This role is maintained until today, as Crete is an important factor of wealth, which mainly derives from tourism and agriculture, for the country.The mapping research focused on the in-depth analysis of the historic evolution and development in terms of dominations, the settlements, the topography and geomorphological features of the island in combination with the climate, the energy production and its infrastructure throughout the island.A more thorough research has been conducted for Gavdos, its connection with Crete and the sea area between the two islands. in Crete and the sources from which it derives. One of the main problems detected in this sector, is the lack of energy connection with the mainland, an issue that also concerns the majority of the islands. Given that as a fact, an energy research was conducted towards the direction of an energy-autonomous Crete, which resulted in the conclusion that its geographical location offers much potential in the renewable energy sources field.More specifically, the southern part of the island and the sea area in between Crete and Gavdos has a great dynamic in terms of renewable energy. The sun, the wind and the waves reach the maximum of their potential in this site, offering the opportunity to generate big amounts of energy with no further impact to the environment.With these facts in mind, the aim of the project is to create a battery for Crete, supported by wave and wind parks. The suggested floating structure hosts housing facilities, research labs, power stations, so as to collect and diffuse the energy and construction platforms in order to technically support the energy parks. It is about a self-sustained platform which, in a first phase, will supply Gavdos and Crete with the necessary energy, providing autonomy, without sacrificing the surrounding environment. The Cyclades are one of the island groups that constitute the Aegean archipelago. The name refers to the Greek word for cycle, due to the one which the islands form around the sacred island of Delos. The Cyclades comprise about 220 islands, covering a total area of 2,572 km2 . The last population measurement showed that there were 119,549 people living permanently in Cyclades. The islands are peaks of a submerged mountainous terrain, with the exception of two volcanic islands, Milos and Santorini. The climate is generally dry and mild with intense wind action. There are 96 areas protected by Natura 2000, most of which are wetlands, and host many bird’s species during transitional seasons. the area accessible to visitors. The scaffolding which encircles the island has two roles. The first one is to create a promenade around the island and provide to the visitors a visual aspect of the island, which will be the exact opposite of the one that the prisoners had – island view. The second one is about the visualization of the invisible border which isolated the prisoners from the rest of the world. The topography, the enviroment, the mythology makes the lanscape of Peloponnese looks like a utopia.All these things makes us to see and read Moreas as a museum with many mirrors that reflects the combination of these observations. The project focuses to make 4 mirrors that explain this landscape.
